Onwusonye as speaker of Delta State's House of Assembly
is no longer. What is news is what led to his purported resignation
and how Dr.Emmanuel Uduaghan allegedly plotted his fall.
Sometime in 2013 the immediate past speaker,Mr.Victor Ochei, led members of
the State House of Assembly to pass the "Anti-terrorism bill". The
bill which did not go down well with Dr.Uduaghan who was not in
support of it,prescribed "death by hanging" for offenders among
others. Prior to when the bill was passed by the state
legislators,Dr.Uduaghan has been giving the former speaker hope that
he will succeed him as governor of Delta State come 2015. But as the
day goes by, it appears Mr.Victor Ochei no longer understood the
body language of Dr.Uduaghan. This however led to a cold war between
the two of them even though they continued to pretend in public that
all was well with them and that there was no acrimony anywhere. Only
recently, sources say Dr. Uduaghan allegedly doled some millions of
naira to some members of the State House of Assembly to impeach the
erstwhile speaker,Victor Ochei, whom he described as one that is not
"loyal" to his administration. However, some members of the Assembly
who were already opposed to the Speaker for not giving them their
share of the twenty nine billion naira he allegedly made from the
Independent Power Plant with his company name and for not remitting a
dime to Dr.Uduaghan quickly signed his impeachment. But the speaker
got wind of the game playing out and decided to resign honourably as
speaker. Rumour making the rounds say Mr.Victor Ochei is set to join
Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, who has decamped to the Labour Party, to
fight back his detractors in the state.
While political Political pundits and some staff of the State House of
Assembly describes Mr.Ochei as very"arrogant and proud person", they
also described Dr.Uduaghan as a "deeper lifer"(one who does not
forgive).
While the game lingers, the State Peoples Democratic Party
Chairman,Chief Peter Nwaoboshi who is also from Delta North nursed the
idea of being the governor saying "it is the time for a Delta North
man going by the party's zoning arrangements".
This also caused Chief Nwaoboshi a serious quarrel with the Secretary
to the State Government,Comrade Ovuzorie Macauley when he
(Macauley)said there was "nothing like zoning arrangement and if at
all there is,he has not heard about it". This, political watchers
alleged, is the handy work of Dr.Uduaghan to destabilise some persons
within the state before the 2015 general elections.
Political watchers say the next in line to be brought down by any
means by Dr.Uduaghan is Chief Peter Nwaoboshi for saying it is the
turn of Delta North to be governor even though it is not clear who
will succeed the governor after 2015. Other Governorship Aspirants
from Delta North include Dr.Festus Okubor,Senator Ifeanyi
Okowa,Dr.(Mrs.)Ngozi Olejeme among others.
What remains of this matter is for Dr.Uduaghan to make public who will
succeed him.
