LEADERSHIP: UGBORHEN COMMUNITY GETS NEW PRESIDENT

The Ugborhen Community in Sapele Local Government Council of Delta State today,Monday 10th February,2014 witnessed a landmark event when Chief Anthony Ayovoghwarhe Amitaye emerged as the Community’s             President in a keenly contested election conducted by the Community’s Council of Elders and the Ohwoghara Quarter.Chief Amitaye polled 231 votes emerge the President.Three of the five persons who vied for the position of the Community’s President had earlier stepped down for him while he went to contest with two.Those who stepped down were Hon.{Dr.} Ladun Lawrence,Mr. Joseph Ikpen and Mr. Obaro Light.Messers Emmanuel Akpoyibo and Johnbull Odjegba had earlier pulled out of the election citing some irregularities in the process leading to the conduct of the election.Mr. Akpoyibo said for the election to be free and fair it should be conducted according to the provisions of the Community’s constitution especially sections 18, 19 and 20.Mr. Odjegba on his part alleged that the election register had been manipulated in an undisclosed hotel in Sapele. He sees this act as a ploy to rig the election for Chief Amitaye. The Ugborhen Community which has four quarters namely; Owhokpoghor, Owhikorho,Udumugbaku and Owhogharha has conducted elections/selections for the various position apart from the Position of the President in the community.
Chairman of Elders Forum,Pa. Jacob Ikpekpe while presenting Chief Anthony Amitaye to the people of the community, urged him to greater heights.


Chief Amitayewalked through the centre of the Community to the Town Hall,centre of the epoch making event,and to his father’s compound amidst fanfare stormed the Ugborhen Primary School where he promised to place the best perfoming pupils on scholarship.This, he said, is his contribution towards the development of education in the community.He,therefore, urged the pupils to be serious with their studies.

In a chat with media men present at the event,Chief Amitaye said as part of his agenda for the development of the area his administration would connect the community with the various GSM Networks and at the same time make the empowerment of Youths in the community a priority.He also appaeled to the State Government to separate Ugborhen Primary School and Ugborhen Secondary School who share one compound for improved learning process for the pupils and students of both institutions.He also promised to work with all those who indicated interest in the position of the Community’s President for the betterment of all.He urged those who felt aggrieved to unite with him for the progress of the community.
